Each year the Columbia-Montour Women's Conference seeks to recognize and honor women for their achievements, outstanding contributions to others, leadership and/or personal growth. The Conference asks individuals and organizations to nominate qualified women for these awards.  Our goal is to identify local women from Columbia and Montour counties who deserve recognition and to honor them for their work.

The Outstanding Women's Awards began in 1984, three years after the first Women's Conference was organized.  In the first few years of the Outstanding Women Awards, women were selected from eight specific categories:  business, social service, education, community service and government.  Over the years the specific categories were eliminated.

Award winners today are still selected on the same criteria of some twenty-five years ago.  This criteria includes:  describing how they feel they have enriched the lives of other women, instances in which they have been risk-takers, describing projects or tasks they consider their most important achievements and describing aspects of their personal growth and development that they feel have helped them to serve as  role models for other women.

Selection of the Outstanding Women Award recipients is based on the information provided through answers to four essay questions.  The judging is done anonymously and the recipients are honored with a certificate and honorarium during a ceremony the day of the conference. Over the past twenty-eight years the Columbia-Montour Women's Conference has recognized and honored 107 women.
